Competition Rules:
1. Entry Period. Entries in the 2021 Paint-Your-Own Nutcracker Competition must be submitted between June 21, 2021 and July 16, 2021
2. Eligibility. The Contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia and residents of Canada. Any age can enter the competition.
Employees of Sponsor, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and divisions, their immediate families (parent, child, sibling, spouse), and persons living in the same households of such individuals (whether related or not) are not eligible to participate in the Contest.
3. How to Enter: Sign the bottom of your completed nutcracker prototype and deliver to Drosselmeyer’s Nutcracker Shoppe, 155 N. 4th Street, Steubenville, OH 43952. Nutcrackers can be shipped to the competition site at the artist's expense, but cannot be repaired by staff if they are damaged in shipping and WILL NOT be shipped back at the end of the competition.

- Each participant can only enter ONE nutcracker design prototype. There are no fees to enter this competition.
4. Additional Requirements for Entries. Finished nutcracker prototypes must be 3-dimensional (i.e. no flat nutcrackers) and between 8”-24” tall. The blank nutcracker base you choose to work with can be handmade or purchased (Blank nutcrackers are available at Drosselmeyer’s Nutcracker Shoppe in downtown Steubenville or online here)
All artwork must be appropriate for public viewing by all ages. No words or symbols used as advertising or political propaganda may be incorporated into your image.
By entering, you represent and warrant that your entry is your original work, that your entry does not infringe the rights of any third party, and that you have all the rights necessary to submit the entry and to assign the rights in the entry. Nutcrackers based on or bearing the logos of copyrighted characters will not be accepted without appropriate permission from the source (i.e. Harry Potter, Star Wars, Disney, Marvel, NFL, etc.). Works deemed unsuitable for publication or that do not meet above criteria, in the sole discretion of Sponsor, are not eligible.
5. Limited Grant of Rights. By entering, you grant to Sponsor, its licensees and designees, the worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual, royalty-free right to use the entry in Sponsor’s magazines, on Sponsor’s websites, in Sponsor’s digital products, and in ads promoting future competitions, without further permission, compensation, or notification. You further agree that Sponsor shall have the right, but not the obligation, to use your name and/or photograph for the same purposes.
6. Judging, Notification, and Prizes. All qualifying nutcracker prototype entries will be placed on display at Drosselmeyer’s Nutcracker Shoppe (155 N. 4th Street, Steubenville OH, 43952) for public viewing from July 26, 2021, through July 31, 2021.
The GRAND PRIZE: The nutcracker prototypes will be judged by the Master Carver for the Steubenville Nutcracker Village, and of ALL entries, only ONE will be chosen to be transformed into a life-size nutcracker for the 2021 Christmas Season. The winning artist will be notified by the end of day July 25, 2021. The life-size rendition of the winning nutcracker will be created and put up for “adoption” to be sponsored along with all the other nutcrackers in the Steubenville Nutcracker Village collection. The Master Carver and artists retain the right to adapt the winning nutcracker design if necessary. The winning artist will be recognized on signage by the life-size nutcracker. The winning artist will have an opportunity to tour the Nutcracker Workshop while their life-size nutcracker is being created and if the artist is over 16, they may have the opportunity to spend a day working alongside the master artists.
First Place Awards by Age: The Nutcracker Artist Committee will award a First Place prize to each of the following categories. Prizes could include giftcards, t-shirts, unique nutcrackers, etc, depending on the age range. Each winning artist will be notified by the end of day July 25, 2021.
People’s Choice Award: This award will go to the nutcracker design receiving the most votes while the nutcrackers are displayed during the week of July 26-July 31, 2021. Nutcracker prototypes that have already received prizes will not be eligible for this award. The winning artist will be notified by the end of day August 3, 2021. Prize could include giftcards, t-shirts, unique nutcrackers, etc.
